Readers of the Realist will know that this issue is the last, unless Derek decides to produce an emergency edition in the future. Patriots owe Derek a great debt of gratitude for his efforts to publicise the truth, both in the bulletins, and previously in the Eurorealist. Where many have merely complained about the state of the nation, without doing anything about it, Derek has lived up to the spirit of the saying It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness, and had consistently advocated for the interests of decent, normal, British people in the face of those who preferred to advance the causes of almost anyone else. I in particular am grateful to him for providing me with the opportunity to write articles which I hope will have been read by a number of like minded citizens. Indeed I know from comments made to me over the years that there are many who agree with a great deal of what I say, although obviously not everything. Since producing these pieces my records show that I wrote some 66 for the Eurorealist, and 112 for the bulletin, starting as far back as 2004.
For many years the main focus of mine, and other's comments, was the need for the UK to withdraw from the European Union, if our democracy was to survive. In the face of lies, ignorance, and abuse, those of us who recognised the essentially undemocratic nature of the EU, and the path down which it was leading us towards bureaucratic dictatorship persevered, and eventually, in the 2016 referendum, we triumphed. Of course since then those who desire control by Brussels bureaucrats to governance by our own elected representatives, have placed many obstacles in the way of a proper implementation of the will of the people, and have succeeded in preventing the many real benefits that would have resulted had the political and bureaucratic establishment not delayed, deceived and lied in order to stop us attaining true freedom from Brussels.
Over the years I have conducted a continual battle in the local press, and internet forums, with those too self interested, or unintelligent, or ignorant, to ever understand the real reasons for the vote to leave. These people always talk about economic matters, and ignore the undemocratic nature of the entire European project, unable to see that Brexit represents a desire by the British people to escape from the grip of unelected bureaucrats, who have created and enforced a system which is protectionist, and damages both national economies, and the whole concept of democracy. We stand for the right of our people to govern themselves, which we spent hundreds of years evolving, and which the EU seeks to replace with diktats from arrogant functionaries. As always they refer to Leavers as idiotic know nothings, whose motives are bad, and who are at best gullible idiots, but in reality the latter are people who have been concerned with the manner in which elected representatives have been overridden by arrogant officials, most of whom are just failed politicians from corrupt nations, such as the female French Commissioner who famously declared, when tasked about her accepting corruption in the EU, that everyone does it, as if that was justification.
One of their favourite claims is that opinion polls show that the majority of the electorate wishes to rejoin the EU, which may be true in the prosperous liberal enclaves of North London, or in selfish areas such as Tunbridge Wells, but actually are based on transitory opinion polls, which, for example, said, on the morning of the referendum, that Remainers would win by at least ten per cent! That a number of EU members states have had enough can be seen by the rise of parties which oppose Brussels, not least the recent success of the anti Eu candidate for the presidency in Poland, something which the opinion polls got wrong again. That nine years after the referendum the Remainers still seek to overturn the greatest democratic decision ever taken in this county shows just what sort of people they are, like little children unable to accept that they were out voted, and determined to carry on sabotaging the country, just to make themselves feel better about being in the minority. They are, as I have said before, similar to Violet Elizabeth Bott of the Just William stories who, when thwarted, said I'll thkweem and thkweem until I'm thick,!
Naturally the bureaucrats love the EU, as it allows them to escape from democratic accountability for their actions, and, so far as the political class is concerned, the Liberal Democrats took the knee to the EU decades ago, while, from the time of Neil Kinnock onwards the Labour party abandoned its working class roots to support the European project. Unfortunately the Conservatives, too often dominated by the so called 'One Nation' wing, also sold out to Brussels, while the Greens are so deranged on almost everything they are irrelevant. Only Reform offers a hope of finally breaking with the EU, but they have a fight on their hands. At the time of the referendum the political, and bureaucratic, elites did everything they could to frighten people into voting to stay in the EU. 'ProjectFear' said that the economy would collapse, that ordinary people would ensure unimaginable privations, and even that a war might result from the UK daring to break with Brussels.
Of course none of these warnings were true, and came into the same category as the threat by the fat boy in Dickens's Pickwick Papers, when he says I wants to make your flesh creep. The intention was to scare the British people into supporting membership of an organisation which benefited only the selfish elites. In fact the electorate, not being imbeciles, recognised this alarmist nonsense for what it was, and defied the so called great and the good to vote for freedom. Now, as the main parties run scared of Reform, we see the beginnings of a rerun of this failed strategy, with those such as the Prime Minister claiming that Reform's policies are unworkable, and dangerous, while all left liberals are preparing to use lies, and nonsensical statements, to sabotage the party. Accusations of everything from intending to privatise the NHS, hyperinflation, and overt racism will be made. The BBC, currently obsessed with demonising Israel over the war in Gaza, will assuredly take part in the campaign to do the same to Reform. The British people must ignore these self interested wailings of a failed establishment facing defeat, and turn to those who recognise that this country is in dire straits, and only a truly radical change of direction can save us from disaster.
Turning to other matters. The British have rightly always treated the Eurovision song contest as a source for humour, the greatest exponent of which was Terry Wogan, whose accurate comments pricked the whole vast balloon of pretentiousness. However the competition has always contained sinister political undercurrents, and never more so than this year, when the ingrained anti semitism of the liberal elites treated the Israeli entry, sung by a women who nearly died in the massacre of innocents perpetrated by the terrorists of Hamas, was subjected to endless protests, and, despite the obvious support of a majority of the public vote, was prevented from winning by the so called experts.
It is despicable that the victims of this unprovoked attack by barbarians, who raped, kidnapped and murdered unarmed civilians, including babies, should be cast as the villains by so many members of the chattering classes of the West, including a large part of the media, particularly the BBC. How many other nations would be expected to accept such an outrage without seeking to ensure that it will never happen again. Would we? The only way for Israel to prevent a reoccurrence is to destroy the evil organisation which killed its people, yet even Western governments are demanding that she cease her efforts to root out those responsible. This is no more than an expression of the latent anti semitism so prevalent even today in democratic nations, reflected in the position taken by our universities, and so many of the political elite. It shames all those who take such an attitude to a much persecuted people who only seek to live their lives in peace.
Those so called liberals and progressives who constantly treat Israel as the villain in the travails of the Middle East should go to see the film The Seed of the Sacred Fig, a title which refers to a species of fig that spreads by wrapping itself around another tree, and eventually strangling it, a symbol of the theocratic regime in Iran. Although the story line focuses on the corruption, and eventual disintegration of a single family, the wider picture is of the rebellion by young people, especially women, against the dictatorship of the Ayatollahs, and the subsequent violent crushing of dissent by the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an organisation which, to its shame, the UK government has so far failed to proscribe.
Iran is not an Arab nation, but the clerics who rule are obsessed with achieving with the destruction of Israel, the only democratic nation in the Middle East, an ally of the UK, and the USA. The Iranian regime is essentially fascist, where anyone who dares to challenge the power of the theocracy is routinely executed, where women are treated as second class citizens, those who are not heterosexual risk a similar fate, and, under Iranian law, apostasy from Islam is also punishable by death, while atheists and agnostics are officially unrecognised by the government. Those in the West who believe every lie uttered by the terrorists of Hamas, includes many who are themselves female, or gay, but seem incapable of comprehending that, in a nation dominated by the Ayatollahs, they would themselves be in grave danger of either total subservience, or death. The reality of Iran, as shown in the film, puts into proportion the nonsensical whining of many in Western nations, such as those who complain that their favoured pronouns have been ignored, and makes clear that the Iranian people are being denied a bright future by what are, at bottom, mediaevalists. The media, in particular the BBC, continues to ignore these facts in favour of one sided, anti Israeli, reporting on the situation in the Middle East.
Space dictates that I cannot deal in detail all the other major dangers facing us, but, clearly they include the ongoing failure of the politicians to stop the invasion of our country by illegal immigrants, the absurdity of the net zero obsession, and the insanity of the 'trans' debate. On this latter issue we have seen the fanatics deliberately ignore the statement by the Supreme Court that biological sex cannot be changed just by claiming it to be so, so we are faced with those who, against objective reality, continue to aver that a man is a women, that men can breast feed, and also menstruate. We now have the preposterous situation that feminists, gays and lesbians are now at daggers drawn with trans activists, when the whole thing is patently ridiculous. Why are so many interested in arguing over pronouns when we may be at war with a real enemy at any moment?
Something which has arisen recently concerns the ultimate question of who rules? The Labour Attorney General compared calls to quit the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to demands that led to the rise of Nazi Germany, this despite the fact that several EU member states are questioning its powers, and that British politicians are raising legitimate concerns about the manner in which the ECHR is obstructing efforts to control illegal immigration to the UK. He has now had to apologise, but he was also central to the absurd decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to an ally of China.
It is clear that a majority of those in the legal profession are anxious to put the interests of supranational bodies ahead of those of the British people. Our democracies are being undermined by the demands of apologists for these organisations being put above those of democratically elected representatives, in order to establish rule by lawyers, not the rule of law. Whereas once one might have hoped that these institutions were acting in an impartial manner, it is clear that they have been captured by left wing activists, who use them to advance their agendas, which are almost always opposed to Western nations.
It is not only the ECHR which is guilty of such bias, but also the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNHWA), evidenced by statements, confirmed by the agency itself, that that its employees were involved in the October 7 attacks by Hamas. Indeed the UN, itself is weighted against the very countries, such as the USA and the UK, which provide most of its funding, will often speaks in favour of the authoritarian states. Iran, a country which oppresses women, and gays, was appointed as chair of the UN Human Rights Council's Social Forum, and, later, as one of the vice-presidents of the UN General Assembly.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is another forum for our enemies to attack this country, as our soldiers are forced to defend themselves against unsubstantiated claims of war crimes, made by those against whom they have been fighting, while it also issues warrants against democratically elected representatives such as Benjamin Netanyahu. Of course one of the worse offenders is the EU, whose lawyers and bureaucrats routinely overrule elected representatives. It is in our interests to remain within the UN, so that we may use our veto where necessary, but we should withdraw support, and any kind of association, with these other lawyer dominated international groups.
In conclusion, there are two questions to be addressed. Where are we going, and what can we do to save the nation?
On the first the direction of travel is obvious. In the field of foreign affairs the peoples of Gibraltar, and the Falkland Islands may expect to see their right to remain British betrayed, while a firm ally such as Israel will be sold down the river. At home the economy will crash, as the socialists run out of other peoples' money to spend, and our defences will continue to crumble, as the Armed Forces take their place at the back of the queue behind those claiming benefits, many of whom, although obviously not all, are pretending mental illness to avoid working.
The culture wars will continue, with ever more nonsensical ideas being allowed to influence education, health and employment. Net zero will destroy what remains of our industrial base, and we may expect blackouts in the not too distant future. The police force will continue to morph into the Thought Police, and innocent citizens will be punished for daring to oppose the liberal elite. Eventually our democracy will slowly disappear, before it is finally extinguished by conquest, as the authoritarian states triumph over the democracies.
Only a massive sea change can save us now. A government determined to reverse things before it is too late would be obliged to take actions unthinkable until a few years ago.
Inter alia, the majority of those involved with the BBC would have to be replaced by those who believe in the nation, the unions obliged to return to their primary function of representing their members' interests on pay and conditions, not jumping on every left liberal bandwagon, the bureaucracies, both national, and local, purged of those with agendas, which run contrary to their obligations to serve the people, the NHS reformed, root and branch, the upper levels of the police force dismissed in favour of those whose concern is catching criminals, not persecuting innocent citizens, and the Armed Forces restored to a level which could defend the country against Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and our other enemies.
Social media should be abolished, as it is poisoning public debate, the legal profession put back in its place, not aiming at running the country, immigration stopped, and humanely reversed, and punishments applied to criminals which actually fit the crime, and deter reoffending. Net zero should be dropped entirely, as a nation which only emits one per cent of greenhouse gases is not responsible for climate change, yet is crippling its economy in pursuit of the aforesaid policy.
Merely to list these things is to make clear how unlikely it is that anything will actually be done, so Britain will gradually become a third world country, before going down before its enemies.
What an end for what was the greatest country in the world for so many years.
