How dared they?
As we all know Churchill described 1940 as our finest hour, but not so many remember his speech on VE day, when he said "In all our long history we have never seen a greater day than this". One wonders what he would think now, when clearly, from that pinnacle of achievement, Britain has sunk to where she is now.
Over the years I have read countless biographies and very many memoirs, and autobiographies, and I have been reading Boris Johnson's book 'Unleashed'. Those books included those by people in the entertainment business, such as Lenard Nimoy, authors such as Isaac Asimov, and Vera Brittain, evil political figures like Albert Speer, and Adolf Hitler, democratic figures such as Harold Wilson, and Margaret Thatcher, and military accounts by Lord Ismay, Monty, Eisenhower, and of course Churchill. I don't think I have read one which was so entertaining, indeed at times, hilarious, as this by Boris Johnson. Of course the events are recent, so that any of us who are in anyway politically active will be well aware of them, while the author, unlike those listed above, may yet return to the fray.
His account of the way in which the Remainer establishment sought to negate the will of the people after the 2016 EU referendum, is enough to make one's blood boil. Having lost in a fair fight, they tried everything they could think of to ignore the democratic decision. From that useless PM May, whose efforts Boris rightly describes as an attempted surrender to the EU, to those of our current PM, who was active in the campaign for 'The People's Vote', as if the previous one had been conducted among penguins, or some such. The 2016 referendum was preceded by a long debate, in which Remainers had the support of most MPs, who saw the EU as a means of enhancing their career paths, most of the media, particularly the BBC, the bureaucrats, who loved the idea of governing without reference to elected representatives, bankers, and those of the selfish middle classes, who preferred access to such things as Polish au pairs to feeling any concern about their own compatriots.
We Leavers had the support of a number of principled, and well informed, politicians and academics, much of the working class, who actually were paying the price of EU membership, those who put democracy first, and the knowledge that we were speaking the unvarnished truth. When, despite this imbalance of forces we won, the Remainers refused to accept the result, describing Leavers as, at best, gullible, but usually as ignorant, bigoted, even racist, an absurdity given that the indigenous population of Europe is, like us, Caucasian. Remainers have behaved like a spoilt child who, when having lost a football game, stands there stamping his feat, crying unfair, cheats, and demanding the game be played again.
Our American cousins have a somewhat vulgar expression that the Remainers should consider 'Suck it up'. They should accept the result, move on, and help us restore Global Britain, but of course they won't, so it is pointless trying to debate the matter further. We won, they lost, and that's the truth they will not concede. It was only Boris who managed to achieve at least a partial, though not yet complete, Brexit. For this heinous crime he was later forced out by a lot of nonsense about cake. His account of the attitude of European leaders, particularly Macron, who were determined to punish the British people for daring to defy the bureaucrats of Brussels, and who to this day continue to attempt to undermine us, shows just how right we were to leave the EU.
I do not agree with much of what Boris says about net zero, but there is no doubt that he was attempting, on many fronts, to make this country a better place, and it is a tragedy that the Chinese virus totally turned the world upside down, and ruined his hopes. Again, the efforts of European politicians to belittle our vaccine programme, and expose their own people to increased risk, merely because they could not stand the thought that Brexit was proving to be a success, should immunise us against any thoughts of treating the EU as anything other than a political enemy.
It is also obvious that, elected on the coattails of Boris, it was the inexperienced Tory MPs, whose wet ideology, and a complete lack of understanding of the fact that opinion polls, years in advance of a general election, should not be regarded as gospel, that we have to thank for the Starmer regime. They ran scared, ejected a man who was elected by their own party members, followed this by throwing out Liz Truss, another who tried to halt the leftwards ratchet, and finally installed Sunak, whom the membership had turned down in favour of Truss. They should join the Lib Dems, and they thoroughly deserve to have lost their seats last year. They were a disgrace.
That Boris was stabbed in the back by Gove, and later by that idiot Sunak, and the disgusting undermining of his position by supposedly impartial civil servants, has led us to the woke nightmare we now inhabit. I thoroughly recommend this book to patriots, but not to the selfish denizens of the North London enclaves, in which live so many of those long ago recognised by Orwell as the kind of people who hate their own country, and have only contempt for their own compatriots. It may yet be that Boris will, like Cincinnatus, return to finish the job, which would be worth another book.
All this brings me to the question with which I have titled this piece How Dared they?. How dared the political establishment, over decades, follow policies so contrary to the interests, and indeed the wishes, of the British people. They have taken the great country which won the war, and turned it into a hellhole. Without the consent of the population they have allowed vast numbers from other, primitive, cultures, to take over many of out towns, bringing with them beliefs about, for example, the rights of women, which have reversed so many of the gains made in the past one hundred years, and imported into this country violent elements who think nothing of stabbing innocents to death on our streets.
The constant arrive illegally by small boats could be stopped tomorrow if the political class were not actually on the side of these criminals. This disaster has been caused by decades of weak, wet, governments, usually so called Conservatives, and none of the main parties will take any effective action. That we know that none of the major parties will be willing to do this makes clear that only ejecting them from parliament will save the nation. Perhaps if we do go to war with Russia there will be a reversal of the invasion, as these people rush to escape a country to which they have no allegiance, yet might be expected to fight to defend!
Many years ago, as a member of UKIP's NEC, I spoke to a meeting of fishermen about the need to leave the EU if British fishing was to survive. I received enthusiastic support, and many fishermen converted to UKIP. When Boris negotiated the withdrawal from the EU he had to partly sacrifice the fishermen in order to appease Brussels, and now Labour clearly wishes to carry that further. Had UKIP become the government we would have immediately have banned all foreign boats from our waters as part of making a clean break with Brussels, but we were never given the chance.
The Telegraph reports that immigrants are being sent to the head of the queue for the NHS, leaving real British people languishing on waiting lists for months. It is now clear that just making some changes to existing laws is not going to be enough to save us. The left liberal traitors have been turning the ratchet in their direction for years, totally undermining our nation, and if the decent people of this country ever reassert control it will be necessary to, in effect, massively turn it back. It will be necessary to take action which will cause the denizens of North London to faint, while our enemies abroad will no doubt attack us for breaching the cosy consensus they adhere to, as they also betray their own people.
Another social experiment, carried out by the politicians, without any desire emanating from the people for such a thing, has been the implementation of weak penal policies, removing the sort of deterrent sentences which used to work well, and allowing the criminal class to laugh at the forces of law and order. For example I am sure that I am not alone in feeling a sick anger at the murder of poor little Sara Sharif. I am consumed with fury that an innocent should die such a terrible death at the hands of monsters.
When my late mother was in her fifties, and after having raised two sons, she, as a convinced Christian, volunteered to work as a social worker looking after the less fortunate, including children. Many of her colleagues had a similar background. Suddenly they were told that their services were no longer required, as all social workers were now required to have a university degree, so they were dismissed, to be replaced by youngsters, who had no practical knowledge of bringing up children, and, worse, had been through indoctrination by left wing lecturers in sociology, so they were obsessed with applying the fashionable nostrums of the Left, rather than dealing with the real world.
As a consequence middle class white parents are treated as guilty until proved innocent, while those whom the Left love to consider victims by virtue of their ethnicity, or sexual orientation, are excused time and time again. Those guilty of this crime should be subject to capital punishment, but all those social workers, lawyers and judges, whose actions facilitated the death of poor little Sara should be dismissed immediately, as should all those politicians whose failure to make punishments fit the crime lead to such cruelty. Perhaps one day we will have a courageous government, which will replace the current set of social workers with those who can recognize evil when they encounter it, but I doubt it.
The elite has embraced the absurd ideology of woke, leading to basic facts about such things as biological sex, being denied by deranged activists, who attack reality. There is little point in repeating the litany of insane ideas with which we are assaulted every day, but suffice it to say that normal people are even being spoken to by police for daring to question all this nonsense.
Over sixty years ago I worked for a year in the Town Clerk's department of a Labour dominated borough council. Naturally there was a degree of emphasis on considering the needs of the poorer sections of the borough, but the council concentrated on fulfilling all the basic requirements of a municipal authority, as had been the case for decades. Now however we have councils, including many under Conservative control, posturing on issues that have nothing to do with their local duties, taking positions on such things as the nuclear deterrent, according the claims of the gay community more significance than their numbers warrant, or issuing statements on foreign affairs, including the wars in the Middle East, and of course giving support to the absurd net zero campaign.
Worse from the point of view of the local ratepayers is the amount of their money wasted on pursuing the absurd ideology of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, rather than just recruiting the best person for a job, while the parasitic non profession of HR absorbs immense amounts merely in order that its practitioners may interfere with those actually trying to achieve the proper objectives of the organisation. The only solution is for the public to elect councillors who are prepared to work in the former's interest, not to make themselves feel good by virtue signalling on matters that are not their business.
We also face disaster because of another cause for which the governing parties never had a mandate, and that is the pursuit of net zero. The insane drive to decarbonise will guarantee blackouts, and further deindustrialisation. Miliband is a green fanatic, who is doing immense damage to this country. He has already banned the extraction of our own reserves of oil and gas from the North Sea, preferring to spend money we can ill afford in purchasing the necessary fuel from abroad. He also intends to use prime agricultural land as sites for solar farms, thus exacerbating the problem of Britain not producing enough food for the population.
All this is intended to reduce further the minuscule one per cent of global of emissions produced here, while the actual culprits such as China continue to pump out nearly thirty times that emanating from the UK. I trust that, when people are enduring blackouts, food shortages, and hospitals in dire straits without power, the electorate will recognize who is to blame. Not just Miliband by the entire political and bureaucratic elite.
Even if one were to accept that so called greenhouse gases are the prime driver of global climate change, which is by no means certain, statistical surveys shows that China produces 30.7 per cent, India 7.6 per cent, and Russia 4 per cent, while even countries such as Iran, Indonesia and Turkey pump out more than the UK. The most prolific are not making any attempt to reduce these figures, indeed are still building fossil fuel power stations at an accelerated rate. New official statistics confirm UK has cut emissions by 50 per cent between 1990 and 2022, and the UK is the first major economy to halve its emissions, while also growing its economy by 79 per cent, yet this is not enough for the zealots of Just Stop Oil who continue to block roads, tack works of art, and generally cause trouble.
I could go on but the point is clear. How dared they! And how do they continue to dare!?
This is supposed to be a democratic country, yet those in charge have been ignoring the people as they implement policies which do not, and never have had, the support of the majority of the population. It is still possible for Britain to remain a democratic country, but if nothing is changed then we will descend into a reflection of the nightmare world of Orwell's 1984. Only Reform is offering a way out.
