Maria
For those such as myself, who loves Opera, and Paris, this film is a treat.
It is sad to see the great diva Maria Callas in her final years, when her voice had gone, and so many who idolised her in her prime, abandoned her when she was no longer the unmatchable goddess of the opera stage. Nevertheless Angelina Jolie has produced a magnificent performance, and is ably supported by an excellent cast. The number of support staff listed in the end credits is enormous, but the result is worth it.
The soundtrack of Callas in her great days is a joy, and the sights of Paris, as she walks the streets, and sits in the cafes, reminds one of how it is still the City of Light, despite the decline of recent years, as areas become tent cities, thanks to the failure of the authorities to deal with the invasion of France by the same people we see illegally crossing the Channel.
Nevertheless I thoroughly recommend this film to those who love the European culture which existed before the cacophony of pop eclipsed real music, and modern architects destroyed the beauty of so many cities with their glass stumps.
