We must change

During the sixty four years of Victoria's reign the British ruled an empire which dwarfed that of Rome, over a quarter of the human race being under our flag, the Royal Navy commanded the oceans and the seven seas, and British industry not only created the infrastructure, upon much of which we still rely, but also built the modern world, constructing railways all over the planet, while British shipping dominating international trade. We can thank them for the sewers, reservoirs, railways and canals which they built. They were confident, supremely talented, and not afraid to be proud of their country. The next generation, when it was faced with a continental enemy intent on extending Prussian rule across the continent, lost nearly a million men stopping them, and the one after that prevented the most evil regime ever to have existed from plunging the world into a new dark age.

Where are we now? Generations of useless politicians, encouraged by the kind of people whom Orwell identified as being supportive of any country but their own, aided and abetted by a parasitic bureaucracy, have reduced this nation to a state described by a recent commentator as being a total disaster. Our financial position is that we are almost ruined, our public institutions failing, crime running amok, vast numbers of people are unhealthy and demoralised, and, where once we were held in high regard around the world, we are now pitied as a joke. Our once mighty Armed Forces could not hold back a determined enemy like Putin for more than a few weeks, unless we were to resort to the use of nuclear weapons, while the Navy is now no more than a coastal defence force. The absurd policy of net zero will lead to ordinary people sitting in the dark and cold, as blackouts strike, while even food security is now threatened by the latest catastrophic budget. It is also destroying British industry so that, in the event of war, we will not be able to sustain what forces we have.

Free speech which we, and our American cousins, gave to the world, no longer exists in the UK, public discourse is insane, with supposedly serious people denying the reality of biological sex, in order to appease a vanishingly small number of people who are mentally disturbed, while most of the media concerns itself with appalling trivia, and gives activists of every stripe far more coverage than they deserve. How can we have reached the point when the physical differences between a man and a woman are denied with a straight face? That ordinary people should be persecuted for having conversations overheard by woke morons is a direct copy of the methods of the Stasi in East Germany, or the Gestapo.

Recently my wife and I watched that classic film "This Happy Breed",written by Noel Coward, directed by David Lean, and starring such icons as Celia Johnson, and John Mills. I know that it was partly wartime propaganda showing an idealised British life, but the world it portrayed did exist, because I, brought up in the London suburbs after the Second World War, could still see it all around me. The population was homogeneous, patriotism was natural, criminals were treated as such, not mollycoddled as is the case today, respect for authority still existed, and no one would have questioned the right of others to hold and express whatever opinions they chose. Now, thanks to the post war politicians, we have allowed into our country people who have no sympathy with the values and history of our nation, and in many cases promote ideas such as the suppression of women. Why should we watch the rape of hundreds of our girls, and endure fatal attacks, because of the ideological, and religious obsessions of those from what the leader of the opposition has called peasant communities? The cover up attempted by the woke over both the rape gangs, and the scum who killed the girls in Stockport, is a total disgrace.

It is not actually so much these primitives who are to blame but the virtue signalling liberals, usually middle class, and white, who have succeeded in undermining every decent thing about this country to absolve their oh so delicate consciences of imagined guilt. Mind you it doesn't stop them choosing to support the savages of Hamas attacking innocent Israelis, because of course the latter are, for the most part, white. They denigrate our history, ignoring the fact that when Britain, which in common with every significant state throughout history, traded in slaves, repented and led the way in ending this foul trade.

Apologists for bringing in millions of aliens claim that it is necessary to prop up the NHS and other critical industries. However ten years from now these people will be scratching their head wondering why we don't have any home grown nurses, doctors, engineers, builders and plumbers, as so many of people exit due to age, and take all their experience with them. The liberal establishment is terrified that the people will wake up and reverse all the cultural changes that have been made to this country in the last few decades. They attack so called misinformation that the Southport murderer was not an immigrant yet, for most of the indigenous population (obviously not for the woke) it is clear that he belongs to one of the ethnic minorities that the main parties have allowed to become entrenched in the UK, without the people ever being asked if that was what they wanted. The people ultimately responsible for the killings on the street, and this murderous attack on little girls, are the liberals who have lied and deceived the public from the very first, over seventy years and counting.

The people of this country are being encased in a bureaucratic straitjacket, which is making life increasingly difficult for anyone not subscribing fully to the demands of the politically correct, and woke public servants. One of the most egregious examples of this is GDPR, a product of the period under the domination of bureaucrats in Brussels, which should have been abolished the moment we left the EU, but which successive governments have preserved, and in fact gold plated. If one volunteers to administer benign organisations such as church rotas, sport teams, or hobby groups, one is constantly faced with obstructions in merely communicating with others within the same club. Now we face even more interference from busybodies with legislation attacking what we may think, and dare to say, online.

This kind of activity, in which unelected functionaries limit the erstwhile legal pursuits of others, is a direct result of the vast numbers of bureaucrats who now direct matters in so many areas. As long ago as 1955 C Northcote Parkinson devised laws which sum up the reality, pointing out that, in bureaucracies, work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion, and that the number of workers within public administration, bureaucracy or officialdom grows, regardless of the amount of work to be done, as officials want subordinates, not rivals, and make work for each other. Quite apart from the impertinence of these people in dictating the actions of others, there are many instances where their dominance is immensely damaging, particularly in the NHS. Every time more funding is provided the bureaucrats ensure that it is spent on meeting rooms, their bonuses, and increasing their little empires, rather than in helping patients. The utter failure of the political class to rein in these parasitic officials means that there is no possibility of any attempted reform being successful. More generally those businesses which actually create the country's wealth are hamstrung by their own bureaucrats, in particular HR departments. If we are ever to see prosperity, and efficiency restored to our nation the latter, and the army of other unproductive pen pushers, must be abolished, and the left wing lawyers who support them ignored. However as the current PM is one of these there is not much chance of it happening.

There is something about which I have warned for years, and which at last seems to have dawned on political commentators regarding our whole educational system. When Blair spoke of "education, education, education", and sending at least fifty per cent of pupils to university, it sounded benign, and laudable, but, as happens so often, it generated unforeseen consequences. Unfortunately, while the idea that education is good, the political elite regards only academic instruction at university as really qualifying, ignoring the vast numbers of less academic youngsters who should instead concentrate on vocational apprenticeships. This is due to the fact that the majority of politicians subscribe to the arrogant view that degrees are the be all and end all, as that is the route they followed themselves.

Consequently we have caused a large number of youngsters to run up large student debts in order to obtain paper qualifications, which frequently have no real use in the workplace. Unsurprisingly graduates then find that they have wasted both time and money, and are angry that suitable employment is not available. Governments have sought to solve this by creating a massive number of basically non jobs in management, so that we now have thousands of people employed in as HR departments, who merely interfere with those attempting to actually perform productive work, in posts relating to Equality, Inclusiveness and Diversity, whose diktats prevent the best candidates for a job being successful, if they do not meet the arbitrary parameters set by left wing ideologues, and in absolutely useless managerial posts which waste resources in such organisations as the NHS.

The number of jumped up polytechnics calling themselves universities should culled, as should the vast numbers of pointless Mickey Mouse courses on offer, and of course the number of bureaucrats infesting so many organisations. We have just seen how James Tooley, the vice chancellor of Buckingham University, and a man who has fought back against the woke, was subjected to a disgraceful campaign to eject him, because the left liberal scum who now sit on its board wanted to close down any opposition to their verminous ideology.

The money saved from ridding us of woke professors and the like should go towards providing resources to produce what we really need: more plumbers, electricians, and construction workers, doctors, nurses, policemen etc. Incidentally there is absolutely no need for the last two professions to require university degrees, a policy currently preventing many good people from following those careers. None of this will happen unless we have politicians who are not so egotistic as to regard anyone who did not go to university as only fit for menial tasks.

The lies propagated by the woke are legion. One of the most nightmarish concepts in Orwell's dystopian novel 1984 is the mutability of the past for, as he says, "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past". As friends of the RSC we have no problem with black actors playing roles such as King Henry VI, anymore than when Laurence Oliver played Othello, but no one in their right minds is expected to believe that the characters shown were other than they actually were. However modern drama departments, particularly on the TV, when recreating the world of the 1950s, and 1960s are clearly misrepresenting the ethnic makeup of the population at that time, particularly when dealing with rural communities.

Programmes such as The Darling Buds of May, Father Brown, Sister Boniface, and now Granchester are showing a world which is far removed from that we those of us who were actually there know to be true. The actors involved are all very competent, but it is totally false to believe that a village in Kent seventy years ago would have ethnic minority postmen, doctors, policemen, vicars, even lords of the manor, as in truth they were almost exclusively Caucasian. Those series made before this kind of distortion took place, such as Dad's Army, reflect the actual reality. While anachronisms are only to be expected in any complex production this kind of casting goes beyond that, and is obviously deliberate propaganda, designed to influence those who have grown up since into believing that nothing really has changed in the ethnic composition of the population, so that there is no need to be concerned about it being changed significantly now. Only those who know nothing of history would accept a remake of The Sweeney, set in the same period as the original, in which the main protagonists communicated by mobile phone, so why are we expected to accept a false depiction of a different aspect of our recent past?

In truth we now have a dictatorship of minorities over the majority, whether it be by the less than five percent of the population which is not heterosexual, the demands of ethnic minorities, or the childish environmental activists who constantly interfere with normal life. If the latter can find the presence a newt, or a butterfly, to prevent the development of much needed projects they will be allowed to get away with it.

The US is now driving the woke out of public life, rejecting the idea that there are more than two sexes, while cracking down on crime, restoring sense to public life, and ending the invasion by illegal migrants, while our incompetents cannot even stop a few boats! We also must change, or perish.
